Mr. James “Mark” Hayes, age 63, passed away Monday, May 5, 2025 at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehab. He was born April 25, 1962 in Yadkin County to the late Harold and Nell Atkins Hayes. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a grandchild, Faith Hodges. Mark grew up in Yadkinville attending Yadkinville Elementary and Forbush High Schools. After high school he found his dream job working for several teams in the NASCAR circuit where he made many lifetime friends. During tenure in NASCAR he was privileged to haul the show cars for Michael Waltrip and Kyle Petty. After his cancer diagnosis and remission, he went to work for the Yadkin County Sheriff Department as a 911 dispatcher until his retirement. Mark loved serving his community. He was a lifetime member of the Yadkin County Rescue Squad and spent some time in the Yadkinville Fire Department. Mark was also involved in the Yadkin County Relay for Life for many years. Mark loved watching all kinds of sports, but his favorite were NASCAR, Carolina Tarheels, and Carolina Panthers. He also enjoyed woodworking. One of his favorite pastimes while at Bermuda Commons was playing Bingo. Mark grew up attending Center Global Methodist Church but later in life he was “converted” by Renee to the Baptist denomination where he was baptized. However, his love for Center never faded. He looked forward to all the visits from the ladies from Center United Methodist when he had to make residence at Bermuda Commons. He is survived by his wife Renee Dimmette Hayes, stepchildren Brittany (Robert Reed) Hodges, Nathanial (Hannah) Hodges, grandchildren, Aaron, Bradley, Maddy, Mallorie, and Meredith, brother and sister-in-law Ricky and June Hayes, in-laws Ray and Rose Ann Dimmette, brother in-law Randy (Leighann) Dimmette along with several nieces, nephews and extended family. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service. His funeral service will be conducted 2:00PM, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Center Global Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Center Global Memorial Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses, CNAs and staff of Bermuda Commons and Liberty Hospice for the love and care he received while in their care. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Yadkin County Rescue Squad in Mark’s name. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Hayes family.
