THIS OBITUARY IS POSTED AS A COURTESY FOR THE MATTHEWS FAMILY
Mary “Jane” Myers Matthews of Yadkinville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, just shy of her 71st birthday. Born on February 25, 1955, Jane was the youngest of the three Myers children. She grew up, like most in her generation did, working the farm and in tobacco fields. She moved on to Century Furniture before ending her working career at Unifi. She inherited her green thumb from her mother, evident in the many gardens and farmers market trips with the grandchildren over the years. In her later years, she enjoyed watching the hummingbirds swarm around her many feeders and endless visits with a new great-grandbaby.
Jane was a hard worker, often pushing herself more than she should. She always gave more; more than she could afford, more than she could physically handle, just more. From supplying the grandchildren’s any need, to bringing 5 more coconut pies than needed to Thanksgiving dinner just so anyone could take one to go, or even tending to the cast-iron chicken stew cauldron at church events when she could barely stand, that was Jane.
We say all this to paint a picture of our MawMaw who gave everything she could to everyone; however, don’t ask for the recipe for those coconut pies or chicken stew - you won’t get them. She held on tight to those legendary recipes, revealing an ingredient or two maybe once a year. More is less in that case.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Jimmy, and the light of her life, daughter Missy (Mike) Dickerson. MawMaw leaves behind three precious grandchildren, Megan (Brock) Flowers, Kaleb Dickerson, and Haley Dickerson, along with one great-grandchild, Evelynn Flowers. Jane is also survived by her caring sister Elaine Wagoner; sister in law Donna Myers; brother and sister in law Rick and Sue Matthews; special niece Tracy (Aaron) McDonald, and great-nieces Katie Mae, Maelynn, and Hazel McDonald; plus many more family and friends.
Jane is reuniting with loved ones now; her parents Leon and Ethel Myers; brother David Myers; and many other friends and family members.
We will celebrate MawMaw’s life on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 with a celebration of life at South Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Yadkinville. We invite our friends and family to visit and fellowship with us at 5:00pm, with a memorial service to follow at 6:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please donate or volunteer with Mountain Valley Hospice (https://mountainvalleycares.org/). We want to express our immense gratitude to MawMaw’s care team at Mountain Valley - SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin.
