Mary Fulk McCormick

Psalm 46:1 – "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Fulk McCormick, 77, of Parker Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, surrounded by the love and care of those who walked beside her during her final journey.

She was born April 3, 1949, in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Fletcher Reid Fulk and Lula Bowman Fulk. Raised on a farm in the beautiful mountains of Virginia, Mary learned at an early age the values of hard work, resilience, and compassion that would become the foundation of her life. She married while still young and devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her family. Through every season of life, including times of hardship, her unwavering faith in God gave her strength and guided her every step. She made certain her children were raised in church, believing there was no greater gift than a foundation of faith.

Mary possessed a servant's heart and a mother's love that knew no limits. No matter the circumstances, she always found a way to provide for her family—not only with food on the table and clothes to wear, but with treasured memories, unconditional love, and a home where everyone knew they were cherished. She delighted in cooking meals that gathered her family around the table, packing picnics for sunny afternoons, and taking trips to the mountains she loved so dearly, especially to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where countless happy memories were made.

Her desire to care for others naturally led her into a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, where she faithfully served for more than 30 years. Nursing was never simply a job to Mary; it was a calling. She found genuine joy in comforting others, offering kindness, and caring for those who needed her most. Her gentle spirit and selfless heart left an enduring impact on the countless lives she touched.

A faithful member of Turners Creek Baptist Church, Mary loved the Lord with all her heart. She attended and volunteered faithfully for as long as her health allowed, finding great peace and strength in reading and studying God's Word. Her Bible was a constant companion, and her quiet faith was reflected in the way she lived each day—with grace, humility, and compassion.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale McCormick; her precious daughter, Melissa Hardy; her cherished grandchildren, Chad Noe, Dawn East, and Serenity Gibson; and her brothers, Wayne Fulk and Jr. Fulk.

Left to treasure her memory are her loving children, Sandra Noe, Donna East, Joseph McCormick, and John McCormick and wife, Holly; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sister, Glenda East; her devoted best friend, Linda Mannring; and her beloved granddogs, "Little Man" and "Little Bit," who brought her endless comfort and companionship.

Mrs. McCormick will lie in state for public viewing from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A celebration of her life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Gentry Family Chapel, officiated by Rev. Mickey Brooks. Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Betsy Brais, PA, and her staff, the Novant Health Palliative Care Team, Mountain Valley Hospice, and the compassionate caregivers of Woltz Hospice Home for the exceptional care, comfort, and loving support shown to Mary and her family throughout her illness.

Though her gentle hands are now at rest, Mary's legacy of faith, kindness, sacrifice, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her life was a beautiful testimony that the greatest measure of a person is not found in what they possess, but in how faithfully they love and serve others.
