Mary Leigh Walker Nixon

Mary Leigh Walker Nixon, 82, passed away Monday December 4, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born March 15, 1941 in Yadkin County to the late Omer Walker and Addie Florence Swaim Walker. Mary loved to walk, travel, serve others, and spend time with her family.  First and foremost Mary loved the Lord and served Him until dementia limited that. She loved singing in the choir and as her friends and family know, she put others’ needs in front of her own.  Mrs. Nixon retired from Sara Lee; she also was a welder for the Austin Company. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank Nixon; sister Jean Walker Casstevens. Surviving are her children Mike (Camela) Nixon, Jill (Gene) Evans; grandchildren Erin (Justin) Presnell, Jake Nixon, Zoe Evans, Jory Evans; great grandchildren Aubryn Presnell, Reagan Presnell; sisters Brenda (Denny) Keeling, Lynn Duty; brother Allen (Jill) Walker. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:30 PM Sunday December 10, 2023 at Peace Haven Baptist Church. Her funeral will be conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday December 10, 2023 at Peace Haven Baptist Church by Rev. Scott Ranck. Burial will follow at St. Paul United Methodist Church. The family would like to say a very special thank you to the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, and Mallard Ridge Assisted Living for the loving care given to Mrs. Nixon.
