Mattie Lou Porter

EAST BEND -  Mrs. Mattie Lou Porter, 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 04, 2026. Mrs. Porter was born January 23, 1932, in Forsyth County to Inez Hairston. She was the oldest member of New Patterson Grove Faith Church. Mrs. Porter enjoyed baking the most delicious desserts, growing beautiful flowers, bowling for a league with Unifi and had a diehard love for the UNC Tarheels and Chicago Bulls during the Michael Jordan in her younger years.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin A. Porter and grandson, David A. Peace. She is survived by her loving children, Clara (special son Dennis) Moser, Melvin “Leon” Porter, Allen (special daughter Sandy) Porter, Sharon Peace, Carol Hawkins, Janice Isome, and Jackie Phinx; five grandchildren, Robin, NaTasha, Ricky and NaKela; six great grandchildren, Destiny, Asia, Arianna, Sydni, Geoffrey, Bailey; one great-great grandchild, Evangeline; two God Sons, Horrace Smith and Wilton Mayfield and many special friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. Eric Helton officiating. Mrs. Porter will be available for public viewing on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 1:45 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Patterson Grove Faith Church Building Fund, 3432 Forbush Road, East Bend, NC 27018.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice and SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin Nurses and Staff for their loving care provided to Mrs. Porter.
