EAST BEND - Mr. Mickey Wayne Smitherman, 77, of Shady Grove Church Road passed away peacefully Sunday, August 4, 2024 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born August 10, 1946 in Forsyth County to the late David Glenn and Jessie Pearl Mickey Smitherman. Mr. Smitherman spent his life as a farmer and was well known and respected for his willingness to help others either in farming or just being a good neighbor to others in the community. He was a member of the East Bend Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years, and was a faithful member of East Bend Evangelical Methodist Church where he served the church faithfully on various committees. His character and faith are exemplified by the verse, “ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7-8. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Hilda Wooten Smitherman, of the home; his children, Loris (Danny) Coe; Maurice (Shonda) Smitherman; grandchildren, Ryan Coe, Reid Coe, Sailor Smitherman and fiance’ Logan Pavlansky; Sydney Smitherman, Sanibell Smitherman; his brother, Tim (Vickie) Smitherman; nephews, Sterling (Ashley) Smitherman, Parker (Morgan) Smitherman; brother-in-law, Davis (Glenda) Wooten; sister-in-law, Nellia (Tom) Hall; and nephews, Michael Matthews, Brian (Kara) Wooten, Evan (Misty) Wooten. The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service of East Bend. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 6 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Jimmy Davis, Rev. Josh Williams, and Rev. Bryant Madren. Interment will follow in the East Bend Evangelical Methodist Church Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to all of the family, friends, caregivers, and Mountain Valley Hospice for all the loving care shown to Mr. Smitherman.
