Peggy Miller Wiles

Peggy Helen Miller Wiles, age 89, of Yadkinville, N.C. took her heavenly flight to her eternal home from Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, during the early hours on August 1, 2026. A special thank you to all her new and past caregivers, as her journey with dementia took its toll over the last five years of her life. It has been said that with dementia, we lose our loved ones twice. But as God is the Great Physician, He always heals in His way and time.

Peggy was born to Grady and Mary Ruth Thompson Miller on October 20, 1936 and share her life with brothers: Jack Miller, Fred Miller, Wilson Miller, Billy Miller and a sister, Barbara (Harvey) Johnson – all of which preceded her in death, along with her husband of 61 years, Robert “Jack” Wiles in 2015, and daughter-in-law, Libby Hayes Wiles, in 2023.

Two sons survive her: Steve (Debbie) Wiles and Mitch Wiles; three grandchildren: Jake Wiles, Jackson (Morgan) Wiles, Stevi Wiles, and a week old great granddaughter: Addisyn Wiles, along with her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and special friends who were like sisters to her.

Peggy worked hard all her life. Even though not old or rich enough to own a car, she shared stories with a laugh how she walked to and from work at a restaurant located on Main Street in Yadkinville, where she served as a waitress so she could buy herself a little jewelry and make-up. Over the years she worked at Hanes Hosiery, Williamson Restaurant, Brendle’s, Inc. and finished her circle of work at the age of seventy-nine back as a waitress at Ace’s Restaurant. She never met a stranger because she always saw people as possible new friends. Close friends have described her as being a classy, energetic lady, who could crack a joke quicker than an eye twinkle. She loved to laugh, travel to the beach and mountains. Many times, she paused her life even to the point of turning off the stove when she was preparing meals so she could spend quality time with her grandchildren. She supported them with her presence at sports events, set up front yard lemonade stands, took them on fishing adventures, zoomed around the county side in search of John Deere farm equipment harvesting crops (Even when gas wasn’t cheap), then came back home to prepare meals so we could all enjoy her famous specialties, including her “secret tater salad recipe” and awesome desserts. If we could summarize her life in a few words, it would be this: her life was well-spent serving others and the Lord!!! Oh, Mom/Grandma, we miss you terribly already because our love for you comes with a high price in your death. However, we are thankful because of Jesus’ plan of salvation for the believer, death is not good-bye, it is just a see you later moment.

The family will visit with friend on Wednesday, August 5, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral service will follow at Gentry Chapel with Rev. Joel Riley officiating. Burial will be held at Bethel Baptist Church.

Flowers accepted; preferably donations made to her beloved Bethel Baptist Church Sewing Ministry, where she spent her Tuesdays with special friends as they laughed, lunched and shared sister time making those items for mission trips, nursing facilities and community outreach programs.
