Richard W. Toop

Mr. Richard W. Toop, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026. He was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey on December 11, 1949 to George Toop, Sr. and Viriginia Cotton Toop. Richard retired as a Tree Expert in New Jersey. He later moved to North Carolina and resided in Dobson. Richard loved summertime and enjoyed being outside. He loved it so much so, that he would cut wood year-round despite the hot weather. Richard dearly loved his K9 companion, John Henry, and gave him an extraordinary life. More than anything, he loved his wife, Cathy. They had been together from the time they were teenagers. Richard and Cathy enjoyed life to the fullest and spent a lot of their time traveling. After Cathy passed away, Richard would often travel in his camper to Wilmington to visit his daughter, Tobi, and her family. He was well loved and will deeply missed. He is survived by a daughter, Tobi Vanpelt and husband, Scott Vanpelt, Sr.; son, Shane Toop and wife, Renee Toop; grandchildren, Scott Vanpelt, Jr. and wife, Cynthia Vanpelt, Justin Vanpelt, Joshua Toop, and Evan Toop; sister, Linda Roman; and brothers, Steven Toop and Peter Toop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cathy Toop; brother, George Toop, Jr.; and his k9 best friend, John Henry. No formal services will be held. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Toop family.
