Robert Joseph “Bob – The Cajun” Hutcherson
Bob Hutcherson was born November 09, 1934 in Houma, Louisiana to Rudolph J. Hutcherson, Sr. and Domitile Porche Hutcherson. Bob grew up in Houma, Louisiana and attended local schools there. After high school, he went to work for J. Ray McDermont, Inc. an off-shore oil company at the age of 17.
Bob was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War; his active duty started on February 17, 1954. He did his basic training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas where he spent 16 weeks at Fort Chaffee. From there he had to follow an assignment to Germany and France and rotated back to Fort Chaffee and was placed on U.S. Army Reserve. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army at Fort Chaffee on the 28th Day of February 1962.
On August 08, 2012, he received a letter from the North Carolina Department of Administration on behalf of Governor Beverly Perdue thanking him for his service during the Korean War. He went back to work J Ray McDermont, Inc. with 30 years of service, where he traveled the globe working in oil fields with assignments in the North Sea, Cairo, Egypt during the Egyptian War, Persian Gulf, Singapore, and 2 years in Malaysia. His travels were enough to fill five passport books.
He was married to Noella Chiasson and fathered 2 children, a daughter Lynne Caroline and a son Dale Robert. On June 17, 1978 Bob married Dorothy “COOKIE” Theresa Herbert (3-16-1935 – 2-14-2004). They were married for 26 years.
During Bob and Cookie’s marriage, they traveled the country and became active members of Jerusalem Shriners Houma Club, where they visited children in the Shriners Children’s Hospital dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus. Bob and Cookie brought a touch of Cajun spices to Yadkin County. On the 4th of July for several years, Bob, a true Cajun, and Cookie, part Cajun, enjoyed having Mardi Gras in Yadkin County, French music, alligator stew, Cajun cooked marinated peasant, Creole spiced butterfly shrimp, soft shell crabs, frog legs, crawfish, duck, and souvenirs for guests.
He received a certificate of Meritorious Service from The Grand Lodge of North Carolina for service to our country and serving the great Masonic principles of Friendship, Morality and Brotherly Love. Bob has been involved in many organizations including Yadkinville Lodge No. 162 and was awarded a 60-year pin in 2026, Life Member of VFW Post 10346, Life Member American Legion Post 336, Disabled American Veterans, and was in the Commanders Club for a number of years. He is a Life Member of the VFW National Home for Children, a member of Northwest Piedmont Purple Heart Foundation, Inc. He also went to schools to teach children about our country’s military veterans.
Bob was preceded in death by both his parents, his wife Cookie, his son Dale R. Hutcherson, his brother, Rudy, and his beloved dog, Tasha. Bob is survived by his daughter Lynne of Houma, Louisiana; his grandson, Chase Hutcherson (Karon) from Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two great-grandsons, Holden Hutcherson and Collen Hutcherson; and brother Curtis Hutcherson of Houma, Louisiana; his best friends, Pete Knight and Lori Cook; his special friends, Francis Killiam and her daughters, Janet Huges and Lisa Pendergraft; and his canine companion, Paws.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Monday, June 8, 2026 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Brett Graham and Cajun Bob’s best friend, Lori Cook. Burial will be in Crestwood Gardens in State Road, next to his beloved Cookie, with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
The family would like to express their gratitude to his friend and housekeeper, Susan Hooker, his caregivers, Cathy Coe, Sandy Smith, Katie Pardue; Cornerstone Home Health; and to Mountain Valley Hospice for all the loving care given to Cajun Bob through the years.
