Ruby Mae Hurt Campbell, age 101½, of Jonesville, NC, passed away on September 14, 2026, at Bermuda Commons Nursing Facility in Bermuda Run, NC.
She was born on March 14, 1925, to Ernest and Rosa Cockerham Hurt of Jonesville.
Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, J. Lee Campbell; her brothers, Ralph Hurt, who died in infancy, E.K. Hurt of Courtney, and Roy Hurt of Mocksville; and her sister, Ruth Hurt Newman of Jonesville.
She is survived by her three children: son, Larry (Gail) Campbell of Charlotte; and daughters, Barbara (Steve) Smith of Mocksville and Sharon Howard of Jonesville.
Mrs. Campbell was a loving grandmother to four granddaughters: Deena (Chris) Burris of Weaverville, Rhonda Campbell Duggan of Concord, Melissa (Lee) Parker of Elkin, and Amanda (Brad) Lagle of Mocksville. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Austin and Luke Jackson of Elkin; Carson and Ally Claire Duggan of Concord; Abby and Ava Burris of Weaverville; and Carter (Sidney) and Ethan (Abigail) Lagle of Mocksville.
She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Grace Ann Campbell of Yadkinville, and Shirley Campbell of Jonesville; several nieces and nephews; special neighbors; and the many friends she made at Bermuda Commons Nursing Facility.
Mrs. Campbell retired from Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital after 24 years of dedicated service as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Caring for others was an important part of her life, both professionally and personally.
She was a lifelong member and the oldest member of North Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Boonville. Her faith and church family were an important part of her life. Throughout the years, she faithfully served by teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and teaching Bible School.
Mrs. Campbell enjoyed taking pictures, collecting seashells, fishing, crocheting, and gardening. She never met a stranger and had a special way of making those around her feel welcome. Her long life was filled with faith, family, service, and friendship. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at North Oak Ridge Baptist Church on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the funeral service and graveside service to follow at 10:00 a.m. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Phillip Link, with the Rev. Linwood Campbell assisting at the graveside service.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Bermuda Commons Nursing Facility and Liberty Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Mrs. Campbell over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 2504 N. Oak Ridge Church Road, Boonville, NC 27011.
