Samuel Gurley Sarvis, III

Yadkinville - Samuel Gurley Sarvis, III, 69, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022. He is survived by his Wife, Celeste Renee Joyner; Sister, Catherine Sarvis Shelor her Husband John; his two children: Daughter, Lindsay Sarvis Berteau her Husband Lee and their three children Parker, August and Henry; Son, Cory Scott Sarvis his Wife Rebekah and their two children Holden and Cohen; two Step Daughters, Jennifer Renee Barnes her Husband Justin and Alison Leigh Carver her Husband Kelley; Sister-in-Law, Lisa Joyner Reed and her Husband Ken; two nieces, Marion Margret Coats and Rebecca Coats Schoening her Husband Stacey and daughter Willow; and many cousins, their children and grandchildren. Sam was born in Burlington, NC on April 23, 1953. He grew up in Winston Salem and Pfafftown. Sam enjoyed playing baseball and football. He also participated in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. At West Forsyth High School, he was a member of the wrestling team. Sam graduated from West in 1971. He went on to study at North Carolina State University where he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1975 and a Master of Mechanical Engineering in 1977. He accepted a job with Shell Oil Company at their refinery in Norco, Louisiana in 1977. Sam retired from Shell in 2008 after 31 years of a very rewarding and successful career. Sam fulfilled a promise to himself and returned to North Carolina immediately after his retirement to be with his Wife Celeste. He and Celeste built their dream log house on a portion of her Grandfather Dallas Davis and Grandmother Jessie’s old tobacco farm in 2009. Life was great for Sam and Celeste in their new home on their own farm. They loved working in their yard growing beautiful flowers, corn and soybeans. Some of Sam’s best times were on their John Deere tractor in the woods with a chainsaw cutting up fallen trees and making paths in their park. His memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2022 at Deep Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Rick Page. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Friday at Deep Creek Baptist. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Sarvis family.
