Sandra "Sandy" Benton Bates

Sandra “Sandy” Benton Bates, 71, passed away on October 24, 2023. She was born on August 19, 1952 in Surry County to Thad Monroe Benton and Ruby Nell Hinshaw Benton. Sandy enjoyed spending time outside and working in her yard or sitting on her front porch watching the hummingbirds. She loved spending time with her family and her special canine companion, Precious.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Harvey Lee Bates; an infant son, Matthew Bates; an infant sister; her sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and John D. Snow; her sister and brother-in-law, Chris Parker Shore and Wilson Parker. Surviving is her daughter, Kim (Jason) Deal; granddaughter, Bella Deal; brother, Larry Benton; brother-in-law, Eddie Shore; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 27 at 2:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice of Yadkinville, 243 N Lee Ave, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Bates family.
