Selene Jeanette Serrano Vargas, 50, born in Veracruz, Mexico, passed away on October 3, 2026, in Jonesville, North Carolina.
Selene was the life of the party and one of those people whose presence could light up an entire room. Her beautiful smile was unmistakable, but even more unforgettable was the joy behind it. She loved people, and people were naturally drawn to her. She could walk into a room full of strangers and leave having made new friends, started new conversations, and given everyone another reason to smile.
Selene had an extraordinary love for life and for all the beautiful things it had to offer. She loved shopping and fashion, dressing up, going out, dancing, laughing, and simply having fun. She appreciated the beautiful things in life and, more importantly, knew how to enjoy them.
That love of life became even more remarkable as Selene lived with multiple system atrophy. She faced an extraordinarily difficult illness with a strength and optimism that could only inspire admiration in those who loved her. Even through the challenges she faced, Selene continued to smile, laugh, connect with people, and find happiness. There were moments when sadness inevitably found her, but she possessed an extraordinary ability to find her way back to joy. Her strength was not the absence of sadness, but her ability to continue choosing life even in the midst of it.
That strength, optimism, and love of life were uniquely Selene. She showed those around her what it meant to find reasons to laugh even during life’s most difficult moments. Her joy was not something she kept to herself; it was something she shared generously, leaving an imprint on family, friends, and even those who had only just met her.
Selene leaves behind her husband, Ciro Ramos; her children, Joshua Ramos, Nathan Ramos, and Jaqueline Baeza Serrano; her mother, Armida Vargas; her sister, Giovanna Vargas; her brother, Omar Vargas; and the many family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were made brighter simply by knowing her.
Selene’s life reminds us that a beautiful life is not measured solely by its length, but by how fully it is lived, how deeply it is loved, how wholeheartedly it is laughed through, and by all the joy one person leaves behind.
We will miss her beautiful smile. We will miss her laughter. We will miss her presence beyond what words can express.
But the joy she gave us remains.
