Shirley Anne Hutchens Carter

August 9, 1942 — August 29, 2022

Mrs. Shirley Anne Hutchens Carter of Yadkinville passed away Monday, August 29, 2022.  She was deeply loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed. She was born August 9, 1942 to the late Edgar and Eula Shore Hutchens in Yadkinville, NC. 

 

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Shirley found the most joy surrounded by her family and friends. She dedicated many years of her life serving the special needs students in Yadkin County as a bus driver, teacher and mentor, serving as Director of ADAP Services for several years before retiring in 1995.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Linda Taylor; brothers Eddie Hutchens, Roger Hutchens, Richard Hutchens and Steve Hutchens.

 

Shirley is survived by her husband of 65 years Johnny Ray Carter whom she loved with all her heart; children Danny Carter and wife Sarah, Robin Nance and husband David, Sharon Stanley and husband Johnny, Keith Carter and fiancé Sandra Boggs; grandchildren Brandon Carter and husband Otto Reynolds, Heather Neal and husband Walter, Jonathan Carter and wife Kristina, Daniel Nance, Jake Carter and wife Andrea, Austin Stanley and Jessica Stanley; step-grandchildren Jamie Barber and husband Tracy, and Brad Bryant; great-grandchildren Eli, Ian, Elliot Carter, future great-grandchild Otto Reynolds IV to arrive in October; step great-grandchildren Channin Adams and wife Jessica, Baylee Bryant, Gracee Bryant, Bryan Trexler, Madyson Trexler, and Hyatt Trexler; step great-great-granchild Oaklynn Adams; special niece Tammy Shore; sister-in-law Bonnie Fulp; brother-in-law Ronnie Carter and wife Nancy.

 

The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM Thursday at Forbush Baptist Church (3917 Old US HWy 421 E). Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 PM Thursday in Forbush Baptist Church by Andy McCollum, Rev. Jimmy Lancaster, and Rev. Justin Crouse.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Her grandchildren will be pallbearers for her service.  Rev. Patty Choplin will lead a private prayer for the family.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Davie Medical Center, Mountain Valley Hospice, and the home health providers (coordinated by Duane Smith), Andrea Carter, and Kendra Shore for their loving care in the final days of her life.
