Mr. Stewart Dean Taylor, 65, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2026. A man deep of convictions and a rugged love for the outdoors, Stewart passed away knowing he was heading to his eternal home in the Kingdom of Heaven. He was born on August 15, 1960 at Hugh Chatham Hospital in Elkin, NC. Stewart was the son of the late Barbara Ann Taylor and James Ray “Sheriff Jim” Taylor. His sister, Diana Taylor Gwyn also proceeded his death. Growing up in the shadows of the Blue Ridge, he developed a lifelong passion for the mountains and the peace of nature. Stewart was never one to shy away from a conversation. A lifelong, staunch Republican, he was known for sharing his political beliefs with anyone he met – always with the same fire and passion he brought to his faith. He professed his love for Christ loudly and proudly, often serving as a guest speaker at many churches throughout the community to share his testimony.
Stewart’s heart belonged to his family. He is survived by a daughter, Amy Vestal (David Pullen); his nieces, Taylor Martin (Dennis) and Jordan Wilson (Bobby); and his dear aunt, Mae Finney. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, Keaten Pullen and Presley Pullen, who were his pride and joy. Stewart’s life was enriched by the steadfast care and friendship of those closest to him. His ex-wife, Belinda Hutson, remained a constant pillar in his life and provided him with compassionate care during his final days. He also leaves behind his longtime friend, Debbie Reavis, who was always by his side; and his faithful companion dog, Honey.
In honor of Stewart’s love for the North Carolina landscape, a Celebration of Life will be held at Stone Mountain State Park on Saturday, March 14, at Noon. Site to be determined. Friends and family are invited to gather for a picnic to share memories, enjoy the mountain air, and celebrate the life lived with conviction. Stewart would want nothing more than for his loved ones to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation while remembering the times they shared.
