Sudie Lousie Barfield Wright, Age 86, of Yadkinville North Carolina passed away at her home peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
Sudie was born November 3, 1939 in the China Grove community near Chadbourn, North Carolina. She entered this world in a small shanty on a sawmill owned by her mother’s family – A humble beginning that would shape her lifelong character of strength, resilience, and determination. Preceded in death was her husband Travis Lee Wright of Taber City North Carolina, her parents, Fred Novack Barfield and Blanche Ethel Nobles Barfield, sister Thetis Barfield Nobles (Jerome), brother Richard Mack Barfield (Anita) and Grandson Lee Travis Wright. Together, Sudie and Travis were fulltime farmers who worked side by side for many years and traveled the world. While balancing the demands of her home life, Sudie built a remarkable career with Lowe’s Companies where she earned numerous awards while also being honored as Credit Manager of the year. Her excellence in her field earned her multiple trips around the world visiting every continent except Australia.
Sudie attended Chadbourn High School as well as East Carolina College. Sudie was an active member at Forest Lawn Baptist Church since March of 1976 where she held numerous jobs and positions. She also served as WMU Director for the Columbus County Baptist Association. Sudie was a devoted member of the WMU (Women’s Missionary Union) and actively involved in the Vermont Girls, a missionary group of women who organized many conferences and completed many mission trips, also while serving as regional director. Her continued service reflected her faith, compassion, and lifelong commitment to helping those in need. She was part of a close-knit group of men and women who also made numerous trips across the US, a testament of her ability to make friends easily and maintain deep connections.
Sudie is survived by her only son Scott Travis Wright (spouse Joseph Brian Pierce Wright) also of Yadkinville, Granddaughter Savanna Renee Wright Carlson (spouse Matt Carlson) and three great grandchildren Easton Lee Wright Carlson, River Teach Carlson, and Adia Moon Carlson. Sudie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews-each of whom she loved very much.
Sudie’s life was not only defined by her hard work, unwavering faith, and compassion but countless lives that she touched and leaves an enduring legacy that will live on throughout all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held December 20, 2025 1pm at Forest Lawn Baptist in the fellowship hall. A private burial will be located at the family “Wright” cemetery.
