Thomas "T.G." Gurney Matthews

Yadkinville – Thomas “T.G.” Gurney Matthews, 88, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021.  He was Born July 7, 1933 in Yadkin County to the late William Yancey Matthews and Minnie Lineberry Matthews.  Mr. Matthews served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, and was in Japan for 18 months during the Korean War.  He was owner and operator of Matthews Garage for 38 years, after which his son bought the business.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Wood Matthews; four sons, Jeffrey (Terry) Matthews, Randy (Debbie) Matthews, Mark (Christi) Matthews, and Robby (Deanna) Matthews; five grandsons; two granddaughters; four great grandsons, and two great granddaughters.  He was a member of Deep Creek Friends Meeting.  His interest in earlier years was Drag racing in which he held many speed records and fishing.  In his later years he and his wife enjoyed traveling by motorhome.  They visited 49 US States and also Canada and Mexico.  A public viewing will be held from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  A private service will be held at a later date.  Memorials can be made to Deep Creek Friends Cemetery Fund, 1140 Deep Creek Church Road, Yadkinville, NC  27055.  Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Matthews family.  Online condolences can be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
