Thomas "Tommy" Hayne Smith III

Thomas “Tommy” Hayne Smith III, 38, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

He was born in Forsyth County to Thomas Hayne Smith, Jr. and Kelly Hodge Bennett.

Tommy was a very lovable guy with a big imagination. He loved going fishing with his papaw and his dad. He enjoyed watching wrestling, eating all kinds of food, playing checkers with his grandmother and going out to eat with family and friends. Tommy loved his nieces and nephews. He was a huge fan of the Carolina Tarheels and the Georgia Bulldogs. Tommy’s favorite saying was “don’t be jealous”. He is probably looking down from Heaven right now saying, “don’t be jealous”.

Tommy was preceded in death by his grandfather, Thomas Hayne Smith, Sr.; grandparents, Bill and Kay Hodge; step-father David Bennett; and a step-brother, Tyler Conger. He is survived by his parents Thomas Hayne Smith, Jr. and Kelly Bennett; step-mother, Donna Conger; a grandmother, Myrtle Smith; a brother, Zackary Barrier (Shauna Caico); step-brothers, Austin Conger (Kimmie Arp) and Kason Conger (Rachel Doss); aunts and uncles, James (Myra) Smith, Beckey Loflin; and many special friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville with Pastor Bill Messer officiating. A burial will follow at Macedonia Moravian Church in Advance, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at the funeral home.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and doctors at Forsyth Medical Center for all the love and care given to Tommy.
