Mrs. Virginia “Ginger” Haigwood Cox, 91, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. She was born in Forsyth County on January 27, 1935 to Jasper Haigwood and Thelma Worley Haigwood Wolfe. Ginger worked for Hanes Hosiery for many years. Following an injury, Ginger became a homemaker and took great care of her family. She loved The Lord greatly and attended Faith Community Baptist Church. Ginger was a people person and loved spending time with others. She enjoyed spending time at her home in the mountains and had many fond memories made during her years there with family and friends. Ginger enjoyed canning. Most of all, she loved her family fiercely. Ginger wanted to be involved in every aspect of her family’s lives and was their biggest cheerleader. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Cox; step father, Worley Wolfe; brothers, Odell Haigwood and Ed Haigwood; daughter, Patricia Ann Cox; and her first husband, Bert Butner. She is survived by her daughters, Terry (Gary) Lawson and Robin (Buddy) McDonald; an “adopted daughter” she loved as her own, Gizela Davis; grandchildren, John (Mylia) Pittman, Stephanie (Tyler) McCormick, Nathan (Jessica) McDonald, and Nick (Amber) McDonald; and great-grandchildren, Mady Pittman, Noah Pittman, Marlee Pittman, Jase McDonald, Wyatt McDonald, Katherine McDonald, Avery McCormick, and Ayla McCormick.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Gentry Family Chapel in East Bend with Pastor Brian Poindexter officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ginger’s grandson’s church, Victory Bible Baptist Church Building Fund, 6910 Martin Ferry Rd, Tobaccoville, NC 27050. Gentry Family Funeral Service of East Bend is serving the Cox family.
