Walter Henry Barker of Ronda went to be with his Lord and Savior on the 2nd of May, 2025. He was born the 3rd of January, 1935 to the late Thomas and Ida Barker in Wilkes County. Walter had a passion of hunting small game like rabbits and squirrels, as well as training beagles. He was a faithful member of Swan Creek Baptist Church. Walter retired from Chatham manufacturing after many long years as working as a weaver.
He is Survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Caroleen Barker; son, Bob (Carol) Barker of Greensboro; daughters, Janice (Barry) Somers of Ronda, Debbie Childress of Ronda, and Sandy (Mark) Thompson of Statesville; brother, Gaither (Carol) Barker of Elkin; sisters, Helen Stroud of Ronda, and Hallie Soots of Ronda; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Barker; and his sister, Edna Soots; and son-in-law, Ralph Childress.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving and caring staff of SECU Hospice home in Yadkinville for their gentle care to Walter. A special thank you would also like to be extended by the family to the staff of Westwood Hills Nursing for their care and dedication to Mr. Barker. The family will be receiving friends and family on Monday, the 5th of May, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Swan Creek Baptist Church in Jonesville. A service will be held following the visitation and the burial will take place after the service in the church cemetery. The staff of Gentry Family Funeral Service of Jonesville will be serving the Barker family.
