Vanhoy
YADKINVILLE - Mr. William Roland Vanhoy, 89, of Shacktown Road passed away Friday, July 3, 2026. He was born February 23, 1927 in Yadkin County to the late Willie Parks and Bessie Rachel Ireland Vanhoy.
Mr. Vanhoy was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean War on the USS Midway and USS Coral Sea. He was a member of Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the American Legion. He retired as an airline mechanic from Piedmont Airlines and U.S. Airways. Mr. Vanhoy loved the Lord and accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age while attending Dennyville Baptist Church. He currently was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, and loved to play and listen to bluegrass music. Mr. Vanhoy was a member of the Grass Valley Boys Bluegrass Band, played for decades in the Galax Fiddlers Convention, and enjoyed the times he was able to play with legends like Jim Sizemore, Chubby Wise, and Raymond Fairchild. He was lovingly known as a “lady’s man”, was always working around his house, and loved working on his antique cars that he had restored.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his former wife, Wynnette Vanhoy Sizemore; his sisters, Jeanette Myers, Georgia Vanhoy; and brothers, Hubert Vanhoy, Hobert Vanhoy, Johnny Vanhoy, Robert Vanhoy, Tommy Vanhoy.
Surviving are his daughter, Deborah Vanhoy Pyles; son-in-law, Jeff Pyles; grandchildren, Sophia Lenay Pyles, Allison Marie Pyles; sister, Bessie Lou Price of Salisbury; close friends, Mike Southern, Darrell Poteat, Danny and Brenda Tyree, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Saturday at Fall Creek Baptist Church in Jonesville. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 PM in the Church with Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
The family wishes to invite everyone to a Celebration of Life event after the service in the church fellowship building. You are invited to bring your instrument and honor Bill with music, food, and fellowship. He would like it that way.
