Zechariah William Walker

Zechariah “Zach” William Walker, 8, went into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. He was born in Surry County on May 24, 2016 to Alex Wright and Ashley Tilley. Zach attended Boonville Elementary School, where he loved to learn. He participated in the Special Olympics. Zach loved going to church, nature, books, music, rocking, singing, eating, and especially playing with his strings. He enjoyed camping and riding the golf cart at Home Place with his grandma, Barbara. Zach was so kind and truly had a heart of gold. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the special privilege to know and love him.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jimmy Tilley; paternal great-grandmother, Mattie Cornett; and a first cousin, Ava Billings. He is survived by his parents, Alex Wright and Ashley Tilley; maternal grandparents, Barbara Tilley (Andy Brame); paternal grandparents, Lena (Sidney) Reins and Randy (Bernadette) Walker; maternal great-grandparents, Kenneth and Kay Hayes; paternal great-grandparents, Betty and John Craig, and Sharon Felts; aunts and uncles, Kayla (Jonathan) Chilton, Brandon Tilley, Amy (Randy) Cave, Elizabeth (Justin) Lambert, Amber (Josh) Aaron, and Michael (Amber) Howell; numerous cousins; and many special friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Monday, August 26, 2024 at Island Ford Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the church with Dr. Charlie Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all entities of the search and rescue team, all of the many prayers and donations, and to all of the teachers and therapists that contributed their time and love to Zach during his lifetime.
